I design and build to maintain my sanity. As I am constantly inspired by my surroundings, especially nature, it becomes necessary to “download” the numerous images of new pieces from my head into reality. It’s a lot like having a term paper due – designs gnaw at me internally until I sit down, design and finally build whatever image is screaming the loudest to be born.
I have always been an artist. When I was a kid I would “see” an image of a kite or a skateboard for example that was totally different from anything the kids on my block had. I’d root around the house looking for whatever scrap materials my mom and dad were willing to let go of (and thought I wouldn’t hurt myself with) to build what I saw in my head. My gigantic tail-less kite actually flew and I didn’t “put anybody’s eyes out” with my homemade bow and arrows set.
I’ve been a printer, a graphic designer and an aerospace engineer. I studied industrial design, architecture, landscape architecture and theology. Lots of schooling, lots of working, lots of longing to be that kid again designing and building the images and ideas that never stopped coming.
I may have taken the long way home but I’m finally here. I’m designing and building and inspired and happy – and feeling quite sane.
